Bitly alternatives in 2026: an honest shortlist

Nine credible alternatives, what each is genuinely good at, and how to pick without regretting it in six months.

Decide what you are actually replacing

People leave Bitly for three different reasons: price at volume, missing link-level controls, or wanting to own the domain and the data. The right alternative is completely different for each, so name your reason before you shortlist.

If price at volume is the problem

Look at platforms with flat pricing rather than click tiers. Metered pricing is fine until a campaign works, at which point success costs money. ShortFreeURL, Cutt.ly and T2M all price flatter than the tiered incumbents.

Password protection, cloaking, geo and device targeting, expiry and A/B splitting are the features most often missing. Short.io and ShortFreeURL have the deepest editors here; Linkly covers targeting well for performance traffic.

If you are a developer

Dub is open source with an excellent API and a self-host path. ShortFreeURL ships a full REST API, webhooks, SDK coverage and an MCP server for AI assistants.

If governance is the driver

BL.INK and enterprise tiers of the incumbents are built for procurement. If you want SSO, audit logs and per-link permissions without an enterprise contract, ShortFreeURL includes them in the $5 plan.

The migration question nobody asks early enough

Whatever you choose, only links on a domain you own can move with you. Move to a branded domain first, then change platforms — in that order the second step is a DNS change and the links never break.
