How to track clicks from an Instagram bio properly
The bio link is the only clickable link most accounts have. Here is how to make it measurable without ten separate URLs.

Use one branded link, not the platform default
A branded link in the bio looks deliberate and lets you change the destination whenever a campaign changes without editing your profile. Editing the profile costs you the small ranking reset of a profile update; editing the link costs nothing.
Tag it so the traffic is attributable
Put utm_source=instagram and utm_medium=social on the link itself. If you also run stories and ads, distinguish them: utm_content=bio, utm_content=story, utm_content=ad. Otherwise all Instagram traffic collapses into one indistinguishable bucket.
When to switch to a link-in-bio page
The moment you have more than one thing to promote. A bundle page lists several destinations under your own domain, each with its own click count, so you can see whether the newsletter or the shop is pulling.
Read scans and clicks separately
If the same campaign runs on a printed QR and in the bio, tag the QR with its own medium so the two channels do not merge. Otherwise you will credit Instagram for footfall you paid for in print.
The in-app browser caveat
Instagram opens links in its own browser, where cookies and some analytics behave differently from Safari or Chrome. Session counts in your analytics tool will not match click counts on the link, and the gap is normal — compare each source against itself over time rather than across tools.
Check the preview
The first thing a shared link shows is its preview card. Set the title, description and image on the link so what people see matches what you promised in the caption.
