Invoices, GST and billing details

Updated 2026-09-08

Every successful payment produces a numbered invoice, available immediately under Billing.

Invoice numbering and contents

Invoices are numbered sequentially in the form MS-<year>-<sequence>. Each shows the amount before tax, the tax, the total, the currency, your billing name and address, and your tax registration number when one is recorded.

GST

INR invoices include GST at the applicable rate; the stored amount is split into base and tax so the invoice shows both rather than a single figure. USD invoices carry no GST.

If you are registered, add your GST number in Organization settings before you pay. The number is copied onto the invoice at the moment it is issued, so adding it afterwards does not retroactively change an invoice that has already been produced.

Billing details

Billing name, billing address, billing country and GST number are set in Organization settings and are used on every subsequent invoice. Keep them current: an invoice with the wrong entity name is a problem for whoever has to file it, and reissuing is more work than editing a field.

The billing country also decides your currency, so changing it changes what you are charged in.

The GST report

There is a GST report endpoint for instance operators who need a periodic summary across invoices. It is an operator tool rather than something a customer needs, but it is worth knowing it exists if you run your own instance.

Payment history

Billing shows every payment attempt with its transaction ID, amount, currency, status and method, alongside the invoices. A payment that shows as pending was started and never completed — usually an abandoned gateway page. It does not mean money left your account. If a payment shows as successful but the plan did not change, contact support with the transaction ID; the gateway response is verified against a signature and a mismatch is recorded rather than silently accepted.

Who can see this

Billing is restricted to owners and admins. Members with the user or readonly role do not see payment history or invoices, which is usually what you want when the organization contains contractors or clients.
